Ravenclaw v.s. Gryffindor
By Nick Shwimmer

Hello Everyone! This is the first Quidditch Report of the Season! Bringing you the news of the game as not everyone can see what happened.
So, last Saturday, at 6:30pm EST, the FIRST Quidditch Game of the Season took Place between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor! The team rosters for the game were as follows…

The Team Rosters!

Ravenclaw
Seeker: Fontaine
Beater: Black
Beater: Miller
Chaser: Shwimmer
Chaser: Adams
Chaser: Thomas
Keeper: Blake

Gryffindor
Seeker: Prewett
Beater: Meeglan/Elani
Beater: Weasley
Chaser: (Elani)
Chaser: Wood
Chaser: Casinelli
Keeper: Hudson
*Due to Time Issues a Beater Meeglan was unable to Participate entirely and Chaser Elani switched from Chaser to Beater*

The Game! Play-By-Play
Ref. Lovingsgood Releases the Quaffle!

The Quaffle is caught by Chaser Shwimmer and he passes it to Chaser Thomas

Beater Weasley hits a Quaffle towards Chaser Thomas and she is blocked!

Both Beater Black AND Beater Miller hit the Bludgers towards Chaser Casinelli

Seeker Prewett finds the Golden Snitch! Gryffindor Wins 150 Points!

**See Information Below!**

The Final Score!

Gryffindor: 75 points
Ravenclaw: 75 points

You must be wondering, if Gryffindor caught the snitch, then why are the points split 75 each? You see, one of the rules of Quidditch here are that ALL Team Members must have at least 50 Posts and have been a member for 30 Days. Beater Meeglan had just registered so they were not allowed to Play. After speaking to the team captains, the Referee offered Beater Black (the Ravenclaw Quidditch Co-Captain) the final decision. Option 1: Draw the game 75 Points each. Option 2: Let Gryffindor have the 150 Points. Option 3: Rematch Sunday the 11th. After a quick meeting with the other Quidditch Members, we came to the decision that we should split the points 75 points each.
All-in-all, it was a short game which Gryffindor Won at first, but then due to a Technicality, it came out to a draw.
The NEXT game will be between Hufflepuff and Slytherin on October 17th-18th!

Thanks Lyra Elani for the Banner!

Governors Perspective

Posted by Chauncey Clemenceau  Published in October 12, 2009

The intent of this column is to get the governors point of view on a recent issue. This column will generally be written by Chauncey Clemenceau and will generally be very informal. This column will most times be posted on Mondays, however not always.

As many members are aware, Hogwarts was attacked several times during the month of September. While the hacker has not been identified, there are still several suspects and the governors are still actively pursuing all leads. Also, there have been numerous security updates added to the Office. This has led to many people having difficulty logging in. We are still working towards getting all members back to their offices as soon as possible.

I’d like to also address issues members seem to be having. SO if you’d like a question answered, please feel free to contact me and I will consider answering your question in this column each week.

Glance in Advance

My crystal ball has revealed several rather interesting things today. Of course, I cannot mention any names, but I can tell you the predictions are only about HO members. I am not responsible for any effects that may result in the reading of these predictions. Now, sit back and let me tell you what I have seen.

* * * *

Smokey fog fills my crystal ball, then clears showing a Gryffindor girl, at least a fifth year or so, running up a staircase and bumping into a Professor on her way to class at the top of a tower. The impact of the collision causes the girl to fall back and she rolls down the staircase. No worries, the girl does not suffer any serious physical injuries. Her ego and her bum is injured as she lands flat on her arse in a pile of horse dung that was placed on the landing by Peeves. The girl will be unable to sit comfortably for two days, but the horrible smell of horse dung will remain with her for an unknown amount of time. - 5th year Gryffindor girls, be careful walking up staircases.

* * * *

The scene disappears behind a ball of smokey fog, and changes as the fog clears. This scene shows a Slytherin girl, roughly third year or thereabouts, standing in the Hogwarts kitchens with a knight in black armor standing on either side of her. The knight on the right side promises a mixture of happiness, sadness, and comfort. The knight on the left side offers only a place in his heart, and a place at his side. Though she is young now, she is being given a choice for the future. Which will she choose you ask? The answer is quite clear, she chooses the one on the right side… to fulfill her youthful idea of what she wants in life. This is the knight that will help her through a small rough patch in life, and still remain a friend later in life. The knight on the left side, will be the one she chooses to spend her life with when she is older. - 3rd year Slytherin girls, be on the lookout for knights in black armor.

* * * *

Another scene takes over the crystal ball, showing a young Slytherin girl, looks to be about first year, joining her friends in the Great Hall. When she arrives at the Slytherin table, she finds she is already there! Completely shocked at the sight of herself already at the table, the young girl slows her steps and confronts her ‘other’ self. Confusion runs rampant at the Slytherin table as the girls friends wonder which of the two is the “real” one. Older students step in to break up the argument and get things under control, however they too are confused when they see two of the same girl. - 1st year Slytherin girls, if you’re not a twin and see yourself already at the Slytherin table… it is NOT a mirror!

A Day in the Life of Lena Svarri

Professor Lena Svarri
by Taylor Spence

So we all know them, the Professors of Hogwarts School. However how much do we really know about them. About there jobs, there lives, who they are, their families. These are just some questions of the ever curious students that walk our halls. Who exactly are those men and women who teach us? This is a Day in the Life of Professor Lena Svarri.

I was able to get some various peoples opinions on Professor Svarri.

RJ Moncrief, the brother to Professor Caroline Monchrief, says ” Lena Svarri knows what she’s doing in the way of divinations. She always buys the best even with the great discounts. And she makes learning things fun even to adults.”

Cypress St. James, a Fifth Year Slytherin, says “Prof. Svarri doesn’t make divinations sound all creepy and psycho like. She describes it in a way that wouldn’t turn it into a laughing stock and makes the classes fun and entertaining which helps with people who have short attention spans.”

So this week, I must say, I was spoiled. Professor Svarri is VERY inviting. She had refreshments, and I’m not sure who made the tea, if it were the house elves or Professor Svarri herself, but it was delious, I give a ten out of ten. However, this is an interview not a food critic. Moving on, I was seated in front of her, her cat, Deanna, watching me with nearly every move.

Taylor Spence (TS): First, what do you teach? And do you have any family here at Hogwarts?

Professor Lena Svarri (LS): I teach basic divinations, intermediate divinations, and dream interpretation. As for family no I don’t have any here at Hogwarts.

TS: What is your favorite part about your job? And what’s your least favorite?

LS: Well I’d say my favorite part is working with students, getting to watch their faces as they try something they wouldn’t normally do and succeed. It makes me feel like I’m learning to do it all over again as a student. Probably my least favorite part is discipline. I’m not really a mean person, anyone can tell you that. But if you don’t follow my rules you will face the consequences of your action.

This is the point where I kinda zoned out, and thought of a random questions. Random questions were, in my opinion, really interesting because it makes the interviewee not get used to any list of questions. It wouldn’t be interesting if the Professor knew what was coming, wouldn’t it?

TS: Strawberry or Grape Jam?

LS: Most definitely Strawberry.

Strawbery lovers everywhere should be proud.

TS: In three words, describe your normal day.

LS: Compassionate, Spontaneous, Courageous.

TS: So a little birdie told me that you are now the acting Head to Gryffindor. How do you feel about this? Does it seem like you have more pressure now from just being the deputy to Gryffindor?

LS: Felicity and I have always worked as a team since I started as Deputy. It is a huge responsibility for me, but since I was already doing part of it already it has made it easier on me. Pressure? I wouldn’t say so. I have good friends as fellow house professors and they are standing strong beside me. While it is a title they all help in their own ways and I wouldn’t be able to do it without. Regardless, its still pretty exciting for me as well as the students.

TS: Well that’s good, its great to have a group of people who support you and the choices you make. And even though it is only a tempory postion, I’m sure you feel quite honored. So what is it like being one of those in charge of the Gryffindor House? With Gryffindors… proud history… do you think its hard to fill those shoes of the Great Professors of the Past who have left Hogwarts?

LS: Oh most definitely. I respect Felicity so much it makes me feel so honored that I can be in that position. Honestly? Its the best job in the world. The students are all so dedicated to working hard, and determined to do well in everything they try. I’ve never been so motivated by one person as I have by everyone in Gryffindor house, even the staff and professors. They motivate me so much to work harder than ever. Above all that they inspire me, and everyday I’m thankful I’m part of something so wonderful. Hard to fill those shoes? Oh most definitely, so many great witches and wizards have run Gryffindor through the ages and I’m blessed to be part of that.

TS: It’s great to see a Professor who honestly loves the work and students like you do. Slytherin is known for its crazy parties, what about Gryffindor? Any crazy parties for the Lions?

LS: -chuckles- Everyone loves a good party, including myself. As for crazy Gryffindor House Parties, I’ll never tell.

Gryffindors should be happy, they are part of the few who actully knows what goes on in Gryffindor House. But I had to give Professor Svarri credit, she could keep a secret.

TS: I heard the Gryffindor Tower is all red. Is that true? Is red the favourite color to every Gryffindor?

LS: No one has painted the entire common room red, or maybe they have and I just haven’t noticed yet. As for the color thing I don’t think its a staple. Crimson is one of my favorite colors but so is violet.

See people rumours are not true! I’m joking, some could be. Although, I don’t believe that person who told me the house-elves are planning a revolt, and are going to attack students by throwing water balloons at them. I just don’t believe it. You know who you are! Moving on.

TS: Four questions, one choice each. Here we go: Chocalate or Vanilla? Pumpkin Juice or Butterbeer? Albus Dumbledore or Minerva McGongall? Harry Potter or Ron Weasley? she said. You’re more than welcome to say what you like if your choice isn’t there.

LS: Chocolate most definitely, it helps me relax and has been a comfort in my home since I was child. Pumpkin Juice, Butterbeer makes me nauseous. Hmmm… I’d have to say Minerva, she was my childhood hero and my woman role model growing up. I have like 102 chocolate frog cards of her. The hardest one is that last one. I would have to say its a tie. Both are respectable and did great things. However they needed each other as well as Hermione.

TS: Very true, job wouldn’t have gotten done with just one of the three, right? So that wraps up out interview. Thank you so much. I hope I didn’t bore you too much. Was there anything you like to add for the people who read this interview?

LS: You far from bored me and Deanna likes you. You are always welcome back Miss Spence. As for a final remark for your interview I have a challenge. The first student to tell me my third favorite color gets one of those tins you just got.

You may be wondering what this tin was. Well, lets just say they are the best cookies I’ve ever tasted. Yes, I said best, EVER. So ladies and gents, read the interview, owl Professor Svarri with your answer and you may just get one of these tins. My last words of Professor Svarri, well, I think she really said it all folks. She is a wonderful Professor, who has really good cookies. So say Hello to her, and her cat, and you’ll find that she is really a good person to talk to. Gryffindors everywhere should be proud. -
