Professor Rici Devlin- New HoH of Slytherin

Posted by Taylor Spence  Published in October 2, 2009
Rici Devlin

Rici Devlin

So we all know them, the Professors of Hogwarts School. However how much do we really know about them. About there jobs, there lives, who they are, their families. These are just some questions of the ever curious students that walk our halls. Who exactly are those men and women who teach us? This is a Day in the Life of Professor Rici Devlin - Students beware.

A few days ago, I had a chance to sit down with Professor Rici Devlin, the new Slytherin Head of House. Many know her has the Professor who teaches The Dark Side of History. Many say she is great while others say she is a bit scary.

Ginger Wadsworth, a third year Slytherin says “She’s an excellent HOH and Professor.”

Addison St. James, a Seventh year Hufflepuff, knew Professor Devlin when she was also a student and had this to say about her: “I had her for introduction to Animagus Studies or something like that. She had a rather different approach to the class than most but it was rather… effective. To say I learned a lot in that class would be an understatement. Granted she scares the boggarts out of me but she made me look into myself more than any other professor had, or has sense.”

Josh Daniels, a seventh year Slytherin, also thought that she is “the hottest professor ever, and [he] will always chase her around the castle.”

While, I do not feel the same way as Josh Daniels, I did however get to form my own opinions of her, mostly within the first few minutes. I had entered into the room, only to have the door slam shut behind me, scaring me. I wasn’t afraid to admit that Professor Devlin worried me a bit. However, once we sat down and talked a bit we started the interview.

Taylor Spence (TS): We’re start off easy. This is mainly for the newer students here at Hogwarts. Before you were made Head of Slytherin House, who held the title before you?

Professor Rici Devlin (RD): Marvin Peevison, head of the flying department and married to the Puffy head of house.

TS: I happened to be able to have Professor Peevison as the Slytherin Head of House for awhile. How do you think Professor Peevison fared as far as carrying out the duties of your new position?

RD: I think he did a fair job after taking over the position when Professor Sniyder moved up and out of it. Too many house points were distributed but I heard the in house parties and what not were pretty good.

TS: Do you think Slytherins might be able to look forward to some in-house parties now that you’re in charge? Also, comparing yourself to Professor Peevison, how do you think you are doing?

RD: -laughs- Considering I used to be known for table dancing and crazy parties in Hell, I’m sure there will be some awesome parties in the future now that the new students are settling in nicely. I have not yet begun to condition the Slytherin’s to how I want them, but be prepared to see changes in the house.

TS: What is your favorite part about being Slytherin Head of House? And is there anything you don’t like about being Head of Slytherin?

RD: I get to cultivate a new generation of the best wizards and train them for what is best for them. But then there are those weak Slytherins that need to go elsewhere, perferrably Durmstrang and get some real training and beat downs till they stop being whiney babies and act like a real Slytherin. Then again, that’s what my office is for too.

It was at this point I became scared for my life… I mean interview. Professor Devlin has a nice exterior but once one word is out of her mouth, BAM! You relize that you entired a nightmare, not really a nightmare but for myself, a firstie it sure did seem like it. However, for the sake of the student body I continued on with my questions, knowing full well that my eleven years of exitense might be ending on that day.

TS: You must be very busy with your classes and other Professor duties, now to be added as the Head of Slytherin, how have you being faring as far as able to being able to have time to yourself or family?

RD: -shrugs- My husband has my daughter and they’re on a little expedition of sorts you could say. She’s only umm…3…no 4 now so no need to worry about school with her yet. My aunt works here, the Headmistress and my neice is a seventh year here. My brother goes to Durmstrang, he’s a sixth year there. My duties don’t really get in the way since I assign myself my own duties.

TS: You must be proud to have the Headmistress as an Aunt, then. Do you find it difficult to work with family whilst here at Hogwarts?

RD: -snorts- No, they do what I say and that’s all that matters. One day I’m going to run this school and clean out the trash.

TS: Slythoween has started, how do you think this years Slytherin Pride month will turn out?

RD: With some bodies laying around someplace. Nothing new there I guess. I’ll try to make it a bit more exciting this year or something if I feel like it.

TS: Is there anyone in particular you would like to thank for getting you to where you are now?

RD: There’s a bunch of people I guess. Not really sure who I would thank the most. Perhaps my aunt for allowing me to work here, considering my past. I’m sure you can find my slacker trophies from old superlatives. That and I dropped out before graduation to have my daughter.

Unfortunely, time was of the essience, so we had to call our interview to a close. Thank Merlin too, for goosebumps were already on my arms.

TS: Well, unfortunely our time has ran out, but I wish to thank you for the interview and I’m sure the Pensive readers will be very interested to read about you. Will you being reading it as well?

RD: We’ll see. If I remember to grab a copy or something then maybe I will.

So there you have it folks, Prof. Rici Devlin, neice of the Headmistress, Aunt to one of our very own seventh years, and scary Professor to all. This interview was quite… interesting, though that isn’t the word I would really use. Professor Devlin is a wonderful person to talk to, if you survive opening the door, though I don’t recommend having a random conversation with her. I’m sure that once I get older, and enter into some of her classes, I too will say that same thing as Ginger Wadsworth and Addison St. James, an excellent Head of House for Slytherin, an excellent Professor, and a excellent person to scare the pants of you.

Dear Ho Pensieve Readers,

Wow, it has super awesome being able to write to you for the first time as your HO Pensieve editor. Just seeing the first couple of issues makes me thrilled for this new era here at Hogwarts Online. I encourage you to write me letters, address things you think are important, ask questions, just write random things, whatever you feel. Make this your place to be heard and to have someone respond to you. I look forward to hearing from you and answering your questions.

Lots of Love,

Elisabeth Matheson
