Let’s Ask Lyra

Posted by Lyra Elani  Published in December 7th 2009

Dear Lyra,
When I first saw this column, I honestly thought it was lame. Well, I have been reading them, and thought, why not? Anywho, There is just so much going on here at Hogwarts, with dark wizards practically around every corner. It sort of seems like they are stalking us or something. Years and years back, I remember my parents talking about a club of some kind that students started. I do not remember what they were fighting against, or if the club was just for learning. That is something they refused to tell me. I decided to ask you, maybe you can find more information on this club for me?

Disgruntled

Disgruntled,
What can I say? Despite the fact that you thought the column was lame, I’m glad you decided to write. I understand what you mean when you said it seems like the dark wizards are stalking us. There was one club, a long time ago, that was formed by students in order to learn defensive spells. However, that group was formed because the students were only allowed to learn the “Theory” of the spells, without actually practicing them.

Lyra

*************

Lyra,
The end of term is near, and I am afraid I did not do well in my classes. I kept thinking I had enough time to finish the work and study etc. Only now, I find myself scrambling to get things done in time. My parents will be so upset with me if I don’t get the required amount of quills to move up. Do you think extra work would help me with my problem?

At Wit’s End

At Wit’s End,
Putting off your classwork, or homework until the very last minute is never a good idea. That always leads to scrambling in the end. I think your parents might be more upset if they knew you didn’t do the work when you were told, or had the chance to in the beginning. Personally, I don’t think Extra Work would help you get your quills now. That would depend on the Professors, I would think.

Lyra

*************

Miss Lyra,
I’m not sure how to put this, but here goes. I haven’t seen my friend since the day we had to meet in the great hall. She got hurt and I helped get her to her dorm, but that was the last time I saw her. I’ve asked other people that know her, but they said they haven’t seen her either. I don’t know where else to turn. I’m afraid to go to the hospital wing, because I saw one of the dark wizards in the corridor around there. How else can I find out about my friend?

Worried Sick

Worried Sick,
I really don’t know what to say. Maybe your friend isn’t feeling well, and staying in bed. You said she was hurt, so that could be possible. You could try asking other members of the house she’s in. Someone from her house would know if she’s there. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

The Pitch Too?
By Nick Shwimmer

Brooms Gone Haywire

It’s been almost a week and brooms are beginning to show up across the castle and grounds. However, those are broken or otherwise damaged as mentioned before. The real question is what explains them flying on their own? Two Gryffindor students report seeing a pair of Nimbus 1998’s zipping across the Black Lake; a Ravenclaw claims a broom was hovering next to their window in the Ravenclaw Tower; and a Hufflepuff tells of a Cleansweep flying past her as she left the Den. More and more of these strange sightings have begun to appear. A group of students even saw at least a dozen brooms race through the corridors on their way to class. So what is explaining all of this?
The possibility remains that this is the work of the Dark Wizards. They could be using any combination of spells or jinxes on the brooms to cause them to act like such. It’s very possible that they are using the brooms as weapons. Just yesterday, a broom flew down the hill and exploded above the Forbidden Forest. It is, still, hard to tell what’s really going on, and without Professors able to lead an investigation, will it become the duty of the students?

The Quidditch Pitch

As seven students head outside of the Castle down to the Quidditch Pitch for some practice, what they do not know is what is about to happen. As they approach the Pitch, the stands buckle and crash into the pitch and a strange wind appears to blow around the pieces in a violent vortex. We are unsure of what caused this, or why it happened while the students were there, but it is once more suspected that the Dark Wizards are behind this.
Naturally, the pitch could be easily fixed by magic, but magic beyond the skills of a student. As we await for Professors to be available, it looks like practicing Quidditch is entirely out of the way.

Thanks to Lyra Elani for the banner!

Students of Hogwarts in State of Terror

Observation of the students inside Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, has led us to believe that many of the students are in a state of terror. Without the guidance of their beloved professors, the students have no one to turn to, other than the dark wizards who seem to be taking over the school at the moment. Rumor has it, that some students have joined the dark wizards willingly, while others were “forced” into following whatever “cause” these dark wizards are working toward. We were also informed that students with family members working in the Ministry may be at greater risk than others. However, we have not been able to confirm nor deny this allegatio through any of our sources.

It would seem these dark wizards have many students terrified to come forth with information. We also have not been able to secure any statements from Ministry Officials regarding what steps are being taken to make certain the inhabitants of Hogwarts will remain safe and uninjured. As reported in an earlier issue, we do know that some of the professors of the school are unconscious and hanging from invisible hooks in the Great Hall. Female professors who are pregnant are being held captive, presumably, in the hospital wing. There are also a small number of professors who were working with the dark wizards, which is how they were able to penetrate the famous school.

This past year has been a very hectic one for the great school, and it’s inhabitants. At the end of Spring Term, many students and staff members were stricken by an ancient Plague, then attacked by dark wizards disguised as the monks bringing the cure. When the dark wizards showed themselves, a battle ensued. Professors, Order members and other adults in the area defeated these dark wizards and the cure was finally issued to the patients. The school was put in order and Summer Term began. We thought that was the attack we would see at this great school, but we were wrong. At the beginning of the Fall Term, darkness once more enveloped the school. Just when the Gov’s and other Professor’s thought the attacks were over, darkness took over once again. Hogwarts has, since then, had added security to the many enchantments, charms and other safeguards already in place.

These added security measures would normally have kept all dark wizards out of Hogwarts and off the grounds. However, the professors on the inside, who have been helping the dark wizards, would know how to remove the enchantments and other protective spells to help the dark wizards enter. It is currently unknown if these professors are willingly helping the dark wizards, or if they have been imperiused, only time will tell in that area. For the time being, I suppose all we can do is trust that the Ministry is taking steps to defend and save Hogwarts Staff and Students.

Beloved Governor & Gryffindor Head of House Resigns

Prof. Felicity Shukurova recently turned in her resignation to the Governor’s Board. She has stepped down as Governor and as Gryffindor’s Head of House. With a heavy heart, the Governor’s accepted her resignation without question. Though no reason was given, we believe the recent loss of her mother may have attributed to her decision to leave.

She has been an asset to both the Governor’s Board and to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her Transfiguration classes were second only to those of Prof. Minerva McGonagall, another former Gryffindor Head of House, and Deputy Headmistress. I am sure, wherever Prof. Shukurova goes, she will do great things, and teach her children the amazing values she has taught us.

Prof. Shukurova affected the lives of all her students and staff members, in the greatest of ways. Her presence at Hogwarts will be sorely missed by all, but especially by her beloved Gryffs. We wish her all the luck, in her future endeavors.

On the upside, Prof. Lena Svarri has been promoted to Gryffindor Head of House. Deputy Head of House has not yet been selected as of press time. Prof. Celestina Smerch has been selected as DC of Transfiguration, and Prof. Chauncey Clemenceau has been selected as Director of Professors. Congratulations to you all, we know you will do awesome jobs!
