Icy Weather and Comical Mishaps

The extreme icy weather experienced throughout both the Wizarding and Muggle worlds has created some very comical mishaps, mainly by muggles. Sources in several Muggle News reporting agencies leaked this information to Wizarding World News. One instance occurred when a muggle man, curious as to exactly how cold it was outside, decided to soak his clothes and set them outside - in order to see how long it would take for the wet clothing to freeze. However, the muggle man neglected to remove the clothing from his body before wetting them and strode outside into the freezing cold. Needless to say, he was only able to walk as far as his clothes line, before his clothes froze. His neighbor found him almost half an hour later, and helped him back into his home (Once the neighbor stopped laughing at his foolishness, that is.)

Another instance occurred when someone called a “Televison” reporter performed experiments, to show other muggles just how cold it was. The muggle woman proceeded to ‘lick’ something called a microphone, which is made of a metallic substance. Her tongue was instantly stuck to the object, with no foreseen way to unstick it, other than pulling the object off. The woman struggled with the object during the entire broadcast of her session, bringing the viewership up a whopping 100 percent. Sources say a janitor finally took pity on the woman at the end of the broadcast, and poured hot water on the object, which helped remove it from her tongue.

A witch, who is reported to be “gaga” went into her garden on the coldest day yet, to water her plants. Unfortunately for her, she forgot what her inital goal was, and jumped into a half frozen pool of water. The witch’s sister found her a mere five minutes later, and apparated to St. Mungo’s. Healers report the woman’s physical health is fine, but her mind has “flown the coop”.

Dark Wizards Driven from Hogwarts

Reliable sources report that all the Dark Wizards have been driven off of Hogwarts grounds. After several weeks of the Dark Wizards having control over Hogwarts and its inhabitants, the famous Wizarding school is brought back to normalcy. The rumors of students having been brainwashed by these wizards were proven to be true. Healers from St. Mungo’s gave each of the brainwashed students an antidote to the potion they were given by the Dark Wizards. Several students were treated for injuries sustained in duels, some students were part of a group called the “Rebels” and other students were either brainwashed or joined the Dark side. As of press time, no word was given on whether or not any of the Dark Wizards were captured and taken to Azkaban.

Let’s Ask Lyra

Posted by Lyra Elani  Published in January 14th 2010

asklyra

Lyra,
I find myself torn between my best friend and my boyfriend. Actually, my best friend used to be my boyfriend, but that was a long time ago. My current boyfriend and I have been together for a while, and things are great between us. The problem is, my old boyfriend told me he still cares for me very much, and not just as best friends. I really don’t know what to do.

Confused Heart

Confused Heart,
I would have to say if things between yourself and your current boyfriend are going great, and you care for him (and vice versa), then it would be a good idea to keep it that way. Your old boyfriend is an ex for a reason. Perhaps you two are meant to only be friends, such as best friends.
Lyra

Lyra,
I guess you know about all the students that were brainwashed and whatnot. Well, I was one of them. I don’t remember any of the things I did, or who I did them to while I was under the influence of the potion I was given. But, guessing by the looks I’ve gotten from other students, some of them friends of mine, I’d have to say I must have been really mean to them or something. How do I set things right with my friends, and students I don’t know?

Unbrainwashed & Suffering

Unbrainwashed & Suffering,
Yes, we all know there were students who were brainwashed and I’m sorry to hear you were one of them. Well, I wasn’t sure if the students would remember anything or not, once they were given the antidote, but you’ve answered that question for me. I think the best thing to do, would be to talk to your friends. Explain to them, if they don’t already know you were brainwashed, that you had no control over your actions. Talk things through, if they’re truly your friends, I’m sure they’ll understand.
Lyra

Lyra,
This is a strange way to ask you, since we know each other pretty good, but I would be insanely embarassed by asking you in person, so here it goes. There are two girls that I’m trying to decide over. One is a good friend of mine, and the other one I don’t know all that well. Really, I only talked to her a couple times, but she seems nice enough. I found out that my good friend and this girl don’t get along - which might cause problems for me with my friend. Anyway, I’m interested in both girls, one more than the other, but I would like to keep them both as friends, even though the other girl isn’t even a friend yet. How could I do this?

Already Embarassed

Already Embarassed,
Hm.. this is a bit hard. I guess the easiest way to decide, would be to figure out how well you know the other girl, and how strong of a friendship you have with your friend. You might find out that your friendship is strong enough for her to put aside whatever differences she has with the other girl. All in all, only time will tell. You would also have to get to know the other girl better, and see if she would be able to put aside any differences she has with your friend.

Gryffindor HoH Interview

Posted by Lyra Elani  Published in January 14th 2010

Interview with Professor Lena Svarri
By: Emma Felton

Professor Lena Svarri is almost twenty-one years old. She was born and raised in Sydney Australia. She has no siblings, being an only child. She was mostly a mommy’s girl. Originally, she wanted to teach at a Muggle school but then decided that teachers at Hogwarts was much more important to her. She is now the head of house for Gryffindor and an amazing person.

Emma Felton: Once you were announced Head Of House, how did you feel at the time? How do you feel now?
prof.lenasvarri: I was very excited, and a little worried. I have incredibly big shoes to fill. Since then I am not nervous but I’m still as excited. I am very hopeful for the Future of Gryffindor, and proud to have been given such an honor.
Emma Felton: You seem to be doing a great job so far. What would you say is the most enjoyable and least enjoyable about your career?
prof.lenasvarri: Thank you. Most enjoyable is being able to be in charge of such a great house full of such wonderful students, and working with such a wonder staff within the house. Probably the least enjoyable part is grading papers, I hate doing that.
Emma Felton: Along with the Head of House position, you also teach classes. What classes are you teaching this term?
prof.lenasvarri: I’m teaching Basic Divinations, Intermediate Divinations, and Dream Interpretations
Emma Felton: Over the years at Hogwarts, both as a student and professor, what would you say was the most important thing you’ve learned?
prof.lenasvarri: I would say the most important thing I’ve learned is to never give up no matter how discouraging things get.
Emma Felton: That is very good advice as well. What advice would you give to students wanting to pursue a career as a Divinations teacher?
prof.lenasvarri: The best advice I can give you is to do what you love and what you don’t. Divinations can be extremely difficult in some areas. But with hard work you will get it, and if you let me know I’ll do whatever I can to help you prepare.
Emma Felton: Anything else you’d like the readers to know?
prof.lenasvarri: My door is always open, whether it is at home or at school. I will be here for anyone, even if I don’t know you. You always can come to me no matter what.

Thanks for your time Professor Lena Svarri and I hope you have many more years to come at Hogwarts!
